How Do You Feel?

How many times have you heard someone say, “I feel so stupid”, “I feel dumb”, or some other self-deprecating statement. Maybe you have made a similarly disparaging remark against yourself. If so, I want you to STOP IT! Stop it right now! When you say those things, you start to believe those things, then your actions will declare those things, making you become those things.

We all make mistakes and when we do, we can feel stupid, but feeling stupid does not make us stupid. Feelings are a choice, and they are fleeting which is why I don’t say “I feel happy” because given half a chance, someone in my world will take it from me. I say “I am happy” because I have decided that happiness will be my state of being. It’s not fool-proof. We must be careful. Life is full of pitfalls that make us fall back into our feelings and we forget that whatever we feel can change. Twenty years ago, you had the worst heartbreak of your life, and you just knew you would die! What happened with that? Did those feelings stay or has your life become the greatest comeback story ever told?

As we approach this upcoming holiday season (or any season for that matter), we will likely be surrounded by certain people who stir up (not-so-pleasant) feelings for us. It is vitally important that we transport ourselves out of our feelings to a place where extended grace and mercy abound. If you cannot do that then…well…just watch your mouth and mind your manners. Every season comes to an end at some point. Cheers!
