Let Your Guard Down

Updated: Nov 28, 2023

Perhaps you know the acronym F.E.A.R. stands for False Evidence Appearing Real. What we think will happen (the source of our fear) is often not real and there is no evidence of its existence. I came up with a new explanation for the acronym- Forgetting Everything About Reality because if we focus on the facts or what is true (i.e.-reality), much of what we fear is not only NOT real, but also baseless and thereby harmless (generally speaking). Still, does any of this really matter if we continue to feel afraid even if we sorta, kinda know the boogeyman is a hoax?

I looked up a list of the top 10 fears that hold people back in life and it included the usual suspects- fear of change, failure, rejection, getting hurt, being judged. The one that stood out the most to me was the fear of uncertainty. Talk about a catchall for the ages. I think more often than not, fearing uncertainty is the one thing that keeps so many people stuck. Basically, what it means is we fear not being able to foretell the future. Well, unless you’re one of Nostradamus’ kinfolk, you’re fighting a losing battle with this one. No one can predict the future. Sure, we may have intuitive power and maybe we get a good or bad vibe about a certain thing, but apart from pure gut instinct, you will have to “step out to find out”.

Don’t be afraid of taking the next step. Each one improves upon the last one. Unless you have a track record of making really bad choices (in which case, I highly recommend seeking out a good life coach) then the future is ripe with promise. You have nothing to fear, not even failure because as I have told you before, “failure happens when you do not try, not because you have to repeat”. So, do yourself a favor, let your guard down, do it afraid, and see what happens.
